OBJECTIVE

  • To reduce the availability of alcohol beverages to underage youth.

DESCRIPTION OF THE INITIATIVE

  • The Association of Employers of the Polish Spirits Industry (PSI) launched the nationwide underage drinking prevention program to reduce the availability of alcohol beverages to underage youth.  According to data, 70% of undergae people in Poland admit they have an easy access to alcohol.
  • Retailers participating in the program commit to asking young customers attempting to buy alcohol for age identifying verification.  PSI provides businesses committing to the campaign with visual aids that support the program and designate the vendor as a “responsible shop.”

  • Campaign materials:
    • leaflet for vendors "why it is important not to sell alcohol to minors".
    • POS branding: stickers, posters, door signs
    • A dedicated website which includes a Map of Responsible Shops in Poland.

  • The campaign is implemented in two ways:
    • Through PSI member companies: the representatives of the companies which have joined the campaign encourage the sales assistants during sales calls to take part in the project, provide the POS with campaign materials and ask the sales assistants to check the ID each time a customer who looks like a minor asks for alcohol.
    • Through retail chains: retail partners implement the campaign internally.
