DESCRIPTION OF THE INITIATIVE

  • The campaign raises awareness of the law which entered into force on 01/04/2009 which requires that companies adopt a preventive policy for drugs and alcohol at the workplace by 01/04/2010.
  • Posters were sent to companies and training was carried out by A Hermes. Training was carried out in a classroom type environment, through theatre or by e-learning. Each type provided both factual and behavioural information. They were followed alone or in combination with other courses. Training covered:
    • Legal: subject matter covered not only the law and its requirements but also subjects like the impact of drinking at work on health and safety. Participants were encouraged to confront their own consumption habits and the effects it has had on themselves as well as those around them.
    • Behaviour: aimed to help employers and human resources staff to develop an understanding of alcohol related problems, how they occur and how to manage them.
    • Interactive play: covered themes like alcohol and the law (employer responsibility on alcohol-related accidents at work); company alcohol policy, its management and dealing with breaches and how to handle occasions when employees may drink alcohol (e.g. company parties).
    • E-learning: Interactive training was divided into three main areas: the risks of alcohol and drugs at the workplace, assessment of the participants own consumption and how to find possible solutions to any problems. Links, FAQs on alcohol and drugs in the workplace, FAQs on the law (the CCT100), misconceptions about drugs and alcohol were also to be found on the e-learning module.
