  • To raise staff and owner awareness of their obligations and legal requirements relating to alcohol.

DESCRIPTION OF THE INITIATIVE

  • Booklets containing information on the law applying to the on-trade, such as the legal purchasing age (LPA) and regulations to protect minors were shared with staff and owners after a short talk on the subject.

IMPACT

  • 500 on-trade owners and staff received the information in 2011.

EVALUATION

  • On-site observation from 2007-2011 showed that:
    • Bar owners and staff were more aware of their social responsibility after the talk.
    • There was a fall in the number of "bad practice" cases of printed promotions from the on-trade.
    • Premises that took part in the initiative no longer ran "1 Euro parties".
