OBJECTIVE

  • To educate the responsible serving and selling of alcohol among serving and selling personnel.
  • To raise awareness of the law related to serving alcohol.
  • To reduce social agreement for buying alcohol by young people who are under 18.

DESCRIPTION OF THE INITIATIVE

  • The campaign started as a pilot in Olsztyn in 2008, in 2009 it was extended to Radom, Elbląg, Gdańsk, Podlasie regions and in 2010 extended to the whole of Poland.
  • It consists of a:
    • Two hour training course during which students learn about the legal situation, social responsibilities and best practices in order to achieve a responsible service of alcohol within the hospitality and retail industries.
    • A "Server's Guide" training book covering the subjects raised during the training session.
  • As well as the courses by PPS, its member companies conduct them as an additional part of their training of barmen.
  • In 2010 the National Police Headquarters participated as a patrone.

IMPACT

  • In 2008 1,129 were trained; In 2009, 2,142 people were trained and in 2010, 1,306 people in 26 cities were trained.
  • In 2013, two training sessions for salesclerks were held, one in Iława and one in Kędzierzyn. In total, 93 persons were trained.
  • The server training is mentioned in the database of good practice on the Polish Responsible Business Forum's website.

EVALUATION

  • In 2010, pre/post evaluation at national level with almost 4,500 trainees found:
    • 82% found the training useful in their daily work.
    • 72% would like to have repeat training on the same or a similar subject.
    • 87% found the training to be good or very good.
